9 Ways To Support Prostate Cancer

1 in 6 UK men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. More than 140 new cases are diagnosed daily.

This article gives some helpful suggestions for dealing with prostate cancer, but it is important to note that these are different from the common prostate issues many men face as they get older.

Prostate enlargement is a frequent condition, and it is estimated that over one in three men over 50 will experience some symptoms of it.

The reason the prostate enlarges with age is not known, but it is not caused by cancer and does not increase the risk of prostate cancer.

Unfortunately, the statistics on prostate cancer are not positive, and it is not clearly linked to any preventable factors.

However, there are some actions that might help lower the risk and slow its progress, so these self-help measures are worth considering.

CAUTION: always consult a doctor if you are being treated for this condition.

Step 1: Diet and exercise

Research is still ongoing, but some studies suggest that a healthy diet and regular exercise can slow the progression of prostate cancer.

In the meantime, try to eat less sugar, choose lean chicken and turkey rather than red meat, and include a lot of colourful fruit and vegetables in your diet. Also, avoid high-fat dairy products.

Effective exercises involve both cardio and weight training.

Step 2: Stress reduction

Many people do not realise that stress can affect the nerves around a tumour, which may contribute to the spread of prostate cancer.

Activities that relieve stress, such as yoga, tai chi, or meditation, might help slow its progress.

Step 3: Flaxseed

This is one of the most potent plant foods on Earth and some proof suggests it can help lower the chance of cancer, strokes, heart disease, and diabetes.

Packed with beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids, dietary fibre and plant compounds called lignans that support heart, digestion and hormone health.

Studies from the University of Toronto suggest flaxseed might shield against prostate and colon cancer, but this is not yet fully proven. Given its beneficial properties it is worth considering adding it to your daily diet.

CAUTION: there are some areas when flaxseed is not recommended. These include medications such as blood thinners, blood pressure meds, antiplatelets and some diabetes medications as it can lower blood sugar levels.

Flax also contains phytoestrogens that mimic oestrogen, which can interfere with HRT or birth control pills.

Always check with your Doctor before adding these to your diet.

Step 4: Green tea

A compound in green tea, called EGCG, might lower and destroy cancer cells.

Studies continue, but the outcomes are good and drinking a few cups daily will also help general health.

Step 5: Vitamin D

Men with prostate cancer often have less vitamin D, as do many people when they get older.

Its anti-swelling, antioxidant, and brain-protecting qualities aid the immune system, muscle use, and brain cell work.

Raising levels might not be as easy as getting more sun or drinking more milk. Vitamin D can raise your levels and may slow cancer cell growth, so studies are continuing.

The best food source for vitamin D is fatty fish, so eating them 2 to 3 times weekly will help.

Step 6: Pomegranate juice

Although early research suggested that drinking pomegranate juice each day may help slow the progress of prostate cancer.

However groups like Prostate Cancer UK and Cancer Research UK state there is no strong, reliable evidence that pomegranate juice prevents, treats, or stops the recurrence of prostate cancer.

Pomegranate juice is a healthy drink rich in vitamins and fibre, but it is not a medical treatment.

Step 7: Lycopene

Lycopene is a natural pigment that has been studied for its impact on cancer. The results are mixed, but including lycopene-rich foods in your diet can support a healthy lifestyle and may help slow the disease.

The highest sources of lycopene are found in red, pink, and orange fruit and vegetables like tomatoes, apricots, melons, papayas, grapes, peaches, watermelon, and cranberries.

Step 8: Turmeric

Early research shows that taking turmeric as a supplement may help prevent prostate cancer and reduce inflammation.

Turmeric contains an active compound called curcumin, which has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.
Studies are ongoing but you can take it as a supplement or tea, or use it in cooking.

Step 9: Bioidentical progesterone

There is no specific research on the use of natural progesterone in men, but some patients with prostate cancer have shared interesting experiences.

After using bioidentical progesterone for about a year, these patients noticed that their PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) levels returned to normal.

It is not clear how natural progesterone helps, but it might be because progesterone can change into testosterone as it also does in women.

As men age, they often produce less testosterone and more dihydrotestosterone, which can overstimulate cells.

Progesterone may help balance dihydrotestosterone levels, supporting testosterone maintenance.

Dr. Tony Coope noted that men can experience oestrogen dominance too. While we do not know if using Serenity (not Twenty to One ) will prevent future issues, it may help in some cases.

Since progesterone is considered safe and some experts believe it could be beneficial for prostate cancer (like John Lee, MD the founder of natural progesterone cream usage), it is worth trying for a month or two to see if it helps.

Please share this information with men you know and always inform your doctor about any new supplements or treatments you are considering.

Keep in mind that application of Serenity, our progesterone cream, is different for men than for women. If you want more details, please email [email protected]
